The Infinite Hero Foundation, an organization that combats the mental and physical issues facing military heroes and their families, and Liberty Military Housing (Liberty), the country’s largest employee-owned military housing provider, announced today that the sixth annual 22 Miles to Break Boundaries event will be held May 16 and 17, raising awareness and funds for military mental health and suicide prevention initiatives.

This year’s event will take place at Annapolis High School and will begin with a 24-hour Endurance Challenge on May 16 and will conclude the following day on May 17 with a closing awards ceremony and a Community Hero 5k Run. The 24-hour Endurance Challenge is a “choose your own adventure” challenge where participants can walk/run in tribute to military heroes, known and unknown, who have struggled with mental health. The Hero 5K Run is a community event, featuring family-friendly activities, food trucks, and resources for mental health support and other issues facing military personnel and their families.

22 Miles to Break Boundaries was founded by Captain Kyle Butters, US Army (Ret.), an Anne Arundel County native who was inspired to take action to honor and remember soldiers who have lost their lives to suicide. Cpt. Butters and at least 20 other committed runners will run 22 miles each day of the weekend, totaling 44 miles, to honor their service to our country and raise awareness for mental health and suicide prevention programs for active-duty personnel and veterans.

Funds raised at this event will support the Infinite Hero Foundation, providing veterans with access to personalized recuperative programs that are proven to be effective in treating depression, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBIs), and suicidal ideation. The event also offers virtual participation so that people can join and support from anywhere in the country. Last year’s event united over 300 participants across 18 states and raised over $70,000 for the Infinite Hero Foundation.

“Supporting the Infinite Hero Foundation directly ties into our belief that every mission begins at home,” said Philip Rizzo, Army veteran, VP and board member of Infinite Hero, and CEO of Liberty Military Housing. “Military families sacrifice so much in service to our nation, and we are proud to help ensure they receive the support, care, and resources they deserve.”

omes together, it sends a powerful message that no service member, veteran, or family has to face these challenges alone,” said Cpt. Kyle Butters, Army veteran, Anne Arundel County native, and event founder. “This weekend is about honoring those we’ve lost, supporting those still struggling, and reminding people that help is always within reach.”

Liberty Military Housing is proud to serve as the title sponsor of 22 Miles to Break Boundaries. Through their operation of more than 200 communities on or near military installations across the country, Liberty’s work is essential for supporting military mission readiness.
