For military-connected children, each move, deployment, new school, and new community can shape their educational journey in important ways. That is why resources that support students and families through transition are so valuable.
The Military Child Education Coalition, known as MCEC, is dedicated to serving the children of those who serve us all by empowering military-connected students, parents, educators, and professionals with resources that help children thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Through programs, training, student leadership opportunities, and individualized support, MCEC helps military children become college-, work-, and life-ready.
Resources for Every Stage of the Military Student Journey
MCEC provides a wide range of tools designed to support military families before, during, and after school transitions. Their Military Student Consultants offer personalized support for students, parents, and professionals navigating challenges such as PCS moves, deployments, credit transfers, transcript questions, social-emotional concerns, IEPs, 504 plans, and overall readiness.
Families can also explore MCEC’s parent webinars, Back-to-School resources, SchoolQuest tools, student programs, podcasts, and professional development opportunities. Together, these resources help create smoother transitions, stronger school connections, and a greater sense of confidence for military-connected students and the adults who support them.
Student Leadership Opportunities This Fall
MCEC is also offering two meaningful leadership programs this fall for military-connected high school students. These programs give students the opportunity to build leadership skills, connect with peers who understand the military lifestyle, and bring new ideas and confidence back to their schools and communities.
Caregiving Youth Student Leadership Program
The Caregiving Youth Student Leadership Program will take place October 2–6, 2026, in San Antonio, Texas. This five-day leadership training is designed for high school caregiving youth, also known as Hidden Helpers, who are actively involved in or impacted by the care needs of a wounded, ill, or injured veteran or service member.
Students will participate in leadership activities, team-building experiences, and lessons focused on preparing for life after high school. Applications are open now and must be submitted by August 27, 2026. While students from across the country are welcome to apply, MCEC is especially grateful for help sharing this opportunity within the National Capital Region.
Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program
The Frances Hesselbein Student Leadership Program will be held October 25–30, 2026, at the United States Military Academy at West Point, New York. This scholarship-based program is open to eligible high school sophomores and juniors who are active in their Student 2 Student program and are ready to grow as leaders on their campuses.
Selected students will take part in leadership development, character-building activities, team-building lessons, and opportunities to learn alongside cadets and fellow Student 2 Student leaders from across the country. Applications and advisor recommendations are due by September 10, 2026.
Helping Military Children Feel Supported Wherever They Go
Military children show strength, adaptability, and resilience every day. With the right support systems in place, they can feel welcomed in new schools, connected to their peers, and prepared for what comes next. Organizations like MCEC play an important role in making sure military-connected students and families have access to the guidance, tools, and encouragement they need along the way.
